What does the Medicaid ID card look like?

The card is plastic, like a credit card, and it has your name and Medicaid ID number on the front. Learn more by seeing a sample Medicaid card (PDF).

Will you send me a new Your Texas Benefits Medicaid ID card each month?

No. The card we send you is your everyday Medicaid ID card. You can keep using this card even if you change your medical or dental plan. We will not send you another Your Texas Benefits Medicaid ID card unless you ask us to send you a new card to replace one that has been damaged, lost or stolen.

Do I still have to renew my Medicaid?

If you have been renewing your Medicaid coverage, you will need to renew each time we send you a renewal application in the mail.

What if I lose my card? How can I order a Your Texas Benefits Medicaid ID card for me and my family?

If you are approved for Medicaid benefits, you can order a new card by phone or on the web.

Can I print my card from the Internet?

If your computer is connected to a printer, you can print a paper copy of the Your Texas Benefits Medicaid ID card for you and those who are listed on your case.

Go to www.YourTexasBenefits.com and follow these steps

  • Click 'Log In'.
  • Enter your user name and password. If you don't have an account click 'Create a new account'.
  • Click on 'Manage'.
  • Click 'Medicaid & CHIP Services' in the Quick Links section.
  • Click 'View Services and Available Health Information'.
  • Click the 'Cards' tab at the top of the page.
  • Click 'Print Cards'.
  • Under the column 'Print copy of card' click the box in the row with the name of the person whose card you want to print. If there are several people listed you can print paper copies for each person.
  • Click the 'Print Card' button. A new window will open with the image of the card.

I received someone else's card in the mail. What should I do with it?

We will collect some information and send you a pre-paid envelope, so you can send this card back to us. Please keep the card in a safe place until you get the pre-paid envelope from us.

My family member passed away. What do I do with the card?

Shred or cut up the card and throw it in the trash. Then, report the person's death to the HHSC benefits office in your area or call 2-1-1 so the record can be closed.

I'm not sure if I have Medicaid or not. How can I find out?

You can find out if you have Medicaid by phone or on the web.

How will the doctor know which Medicaid program I'm in?

The doctor's staff can use your Medicaid ID number to see what Medicaid program you're in. Your doctor should always check to make sure you're covered by Medicaid.

How do I find my doctor's name and phone number? It is not on the card. Same with my dentist. How do I get this information?

If you get your services through Medicaid medical or dental plans, you can get the name and phone number of your main doctor or dentist by calling your plan. If you do not know your plan's email address or phone number, you can call to get this information. You also can get your plan's phone number and email address on the Your Texas Benefits website.

  • Click on the 'Medicaid Benefits' tab at the top of the page. Here you will find the name, phone number, and address for your main doctor. You also will be able to print a map and directions to your doctor's office.

NOTE:

- If you are 20 or younger, you will need to call your dental plan to find out about services or to get your dentist's phone number and email address.

- If you are 21 or older, you don't have a Medicaid dental plan. For answers to questions about Medicaid dental services, call your Medicaid medical plan.

How can I change my address and phone number?

You can make changes to your address and phone number by going to the Your Texas Benefits website. You can also make changes by phone.

  • Log in to your account.
  • Click on 'Manage'
  • Click 'Details' for the case you need to update.
  • Click 'Report a change' and follow the directions.

After you do this, you will be shown a 'Getting started' page that will walk you through the rest of the process.

Don't forget: you must report changes to your case within 10 days of the change.

NOTE:

- If you are receiving Social Security benefits or SSI, you need to contact them first to update this information. If your address is not correct in the Social Security system, the wrong address will show up in our system too. Call the Social Security office at 1-800-772-1213 to correct your address. After that, you can go to the Your Texas Benefits website or call 2-1-1 to correct your address.

- We will not send you another Your Texas Benefits Medicaid ID card unless you ask us to send you a new card to replace one that has been damaged, lost or stolen.

How do I know if my child is due for a Texas Health Steps checkup?

Texas Health Steps will send you a letter when your child is due for a medical or dental checkup.

You also can find out if your child is due for a Texas Health Steps checkup by going to the Your Texas Benefits website.

  • Enter your user name and password. If you don't have an account click 'Create a new account'.
  • Click on 'Manage'.
  • Click 'Medicaid & CHIP Services' in the Quick Links section.
  • Click 'View Services and Available Health Information'. The page will show a list of your children who are due for a medical or dental checkup. You can also print the list to keep with you.

How can I find a drug store that takes Medicaid?

You can search for a Medicaid drug store near your home by phone or on the web.

  • Past Medicaid visits
