2019 Federal Government Shutdown

Texas Health and Human Services is monitoring the situation in Washington and will provide updates as needed. Below are questions and answers about your benefits.

Are February SNAP benefits affected?

Because of the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture told states they can issue benefits until federal funds are no longer available. It is unclear from the federal government when that will happen.

  • If you’re a current client who was determined eligible for February SNAP benefits by Jan. 15, your February benefits were loaded on your Lone Star Card Jan. 20. If we approved your renewal after Jan. 15, you will get benefits on your normal day in February. You don’t need to take any action to receive your benefits.
  • If you need to renew your benefits, you are encouraged to submit your verification documents as soon as possible, even if we gave you a different deadline.
  • If you recently applied for benefits and we asked you for verification documents, you should get them to us as soon as possible, even if we gave you a different deadline.
