On September 1, 2014 STAR, STAR+PLUS, and STAR Health Medicaid managed care programs will add new behavioral health services. STAR and STAR+PLUS will add mental health rehabilitation and mental health targeted case management. STAR Health, which already offers mental health targeted case management, will begin offering mental health rehabilitation services. Right now, both rehabilitation and targeted case management mental health services are available to people with traditional Medicaid coverage and delivered through the local mental health authorities. The NorthSTAR behavioral health program in the Dallas service area will not be affected by this change.
The mental health rehabilitation and mental health targeted case management services will be available to two groups of Medicaid members who are assessed and found eligible:
- Adults with a severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder or other severely disabling mental disorders.
- Children and teens ages 3 through 17 years with a diagnosis of a mental illness or who exhibit a serious emotional disturbance.
