As recently graduated or nurses new to nursing facilities begin their jobs, the Transition to Practice Academy will help them increase their knowledge and readiness to practice. Participating nurses will gain valuable resources and takeaways that support their transition and prepare nurses to offer the highest possible level of care to nursing facility residents.

Topics include overview of nursing facilities; nurse duties and responsibilities; legal and ethical concepts; quality improvement; management; caring for older adults; promoting wellness in body systems and functioning; and workplace engagement.

Who Should Attend?

  • Registered nurses and licensed vocational nurses who have recently graduated
  • Nurses transitioning from other areas, such as acute care

Goal of this Training Academy

The Transition to Practice Academy prepares nurses to work with a senior population. Nurses advance their abilities to provide patient-centered care and promote wellness in the older adult. A nursing facility overview is given, and the academy addresses legal and ethical concepts as well as management models and techniques for quality improvement.
