Kara Crawford is chief of staff for the Texas Health and Human Services system. Her duties include planning and directing administrative and operational activities for the system, and advising the executive commissioner and chief deputy executive commissioner.

Before joining HHS, Crawford was a senior advisor for health budget and policy in Gov. Greg Abbott's office; worked in policy and appropriations positions in the Texas Legislature, including work on the Senate Finance Committee; and was clerk of the Senate Administration Committee. She is no stranger to health and human services, as she previously was the women's health coordinator at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Her private sector work included being a senior manager for government relations for a major health insurance company.
