Heather Griffith Peterson is chief operating officer for the Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) system. In this role, she provides leadership and strategic direction for the health and human services agencies by planning, directing and coordinating the operations that support the system’s centralized support services programs. Before coming to HHS, she was the director of policy research for the Texas A&M University System and chief financial officer for the Texas Department of Agriculture.
She has spent her career in public financial management and agency operations, holding management positions for the City of Austin and for the City of Boston Trust Office. She was a member of the strike force created in 2015 by Gov. Greg Abbott that reviewed HHS management, contracting and operations. Subsequently, the governor appointed her as a member of the HHS Transition Legislative Oversight Committee.
Griffith Peterson has a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
