Registration for the 2021 Texas Mental Health Creative Arts Contest Virtual Reception on May 26 from 4–6 p.m. is now open.

The contest is held by Texas System of Care, Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health at the University of Texas at Austin, and Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Winners across all age groups for original artwork, writing and photography will be announced prior to the reception and posted on the Texas System of Care Gallery webpage.

“Over 650 pieces of art were submitted to this year’s Mental Health Creative Arts Contest, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Kisha Ledlow, Texas System of Care Project director in the HHS Office of Mental Health Coordination. “Mental health impacts everyone, and HHSC is excited about the opportunity to share incredible artwork from across the state and provide a forum to highlight the artists. The goal of both the arts contest and the virtual reception is to raise awareness of mental health challenges and reduce the stigma surrounding them.”

The reception will feature:

  • Remarks from HHSC leadership.
  • Digital slideshow of the winners’ artwork.
  • Panel of artists discussing their artwork and the inspiration behind their submissions.
  • Question-and-answer session.

To register for the reception, visit the GoToWebinar webpage.
