On April 17, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott issued Executive Order No. GA-16 (PDF). The order directs people not to visit long-term care facilities unless to provide critical assistance as determined by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Long-term care facilities are nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, day activity and health services facilities, inpatient hospice units, prescribed pediatric extended care centers, intermediate care facilities for people with an intellectual disability or related conditions, and home and community-based services residences.
Providers listed above must also follow infection control policies and practices set forth by HHSC, including minimizing the movement of staff between facilities whenever possible. HHSC policies and practices are in provider letters, alerts, and resource documents available on the provider portals, as well as in Texas Administrative Code rules.
