IDD System Redesign Advisory Committee

If you are interested in the system redesign for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, you might be interested in being a member of the Intellectual and Developmental Disability System Redesign Advisory Committee.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission executive commissioner will appoint members to the committee to serve three to four year terms. Applications are due no later than 11:59 p.m. Feb. 23rd. 

HHSC will consider the applicants' qualifications, background and interest in serving on the committee. HHSC also tries to choose committee members who, as a whole, represent the diversity of all Texans. For that reason, HHSC considers applicants' ethnicity, gender and geographic location.

About the Intellectual and Developmental Disability System Redesign Advisory Committee

The committee was created by Texas Government Code, Chapter 534 to advise HHSC in the development and implementation of the acute care services and long-term services and supports system redesign for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The committee collaborates with HHSC by identifying areas of improvement and by making recommendations to improve the system for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The committee will include key stakeholders as determined by the HHS executive commissioner. The committee must include representatives of each of the following: 

  • People with IDD who are waiver recipients.
  • People with IDD who are recipients of Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities services.
  • Medicaid health care providers, managed care.
    • Primary care physicians.
    • Non-physician mental health professionals.
    • Direct service workers.
  • Medicaid health care providers, non-managed care.
    • Primary care physicians.
    • Specialty care providers.
    • Non-physician mental health professionals.
  • Representatives of entities with responsibilities for the delivery of Medicaid Long-Term Services and Supports or other Medicaid program service delivery.
    • Representatives of aging and disability resource centers established under the federally funded Aging and Disability Resource Center Initiative.
    • Service coordinators or case managers from private home providers that serve people with IDD.
    • Service coordinators or case managers from public home providers that serve people with IDD.
    • Service coordinators or case managers from community-based providers that serve people with IDD.
  • Private ICF-IDD providers.
  • Public ICF-IDD providers.

An Intellectual and Developmental Disability System Redesign Advisory Committee member must regularly participate in committee meetings and subcommittee meetings and may participate in projects and presentations. Committee meetings will be held at least quarterly in Austin or at the call of the committee chair. Committee members who receive Medicaid services or are family members of people who receive Medicaid services may be repaid for travel to and from meetings.
